After awakening from a 5 years coma after a car crash, high school teacher Johnny Smith (Walken) finds that he has developed the ability to foretell events. When a nurse is bathing him, he sees that her house is on fire, and her daughter is in danger. When his doctor and confidant, Dr. Sam Weizak, touches him he has flashbacks to the trauma Weizak suffered when separated from his mother during World War II but also knows that the woman lives in a nearby city. This makes Johnny a local hero with a press conference and all. "Wanna know why your sister killed herself ?!" Police wants him to solve a serial killer case. Turns out the serial killer was horribly abused by his mother and why the killer hated women so much. Everyone tells him he has a gift, Johnny calls it a curse. Johnny also finds himself lusting for his hot girlfriend Bracknell (Brooke Adams) who has now married and has a young child. Johnny relocates and tries to put it all behind him, working out of his home as a tutor. However, when he shakes the hand of a young and upcoming political candidate, he is confronted with evidence that the man will, as President of the United States, launch a cataclysm that will destroy all of mankind, Johnny knows whats need to be done...... Steven King wrote it with Nixon in mind, Director David Cronenberg updated it considerably to be about Ronald Regan. PS They also made a TV-series out of this and final season got banned, Americans with balls these days! Bitches scared too much to be as a hard core as a1983 film ?!
